Dresses and Figures
I trace my body onto papers then sew, burn, wax, or draw in order to access a deeper sense of myself and the material.
I use my own body and my clothes as a template for the dresses and then allow them to take on their own life.
The dresses contain a presence , perhaps an Invisible Woman. The figures represent bodies which may be sad or humorous or made of wood and smoke, as Perico Pastor refers to them. Working intuitively, I approach the work with an amount of abandon and freedom but pay attention to detail. I get in touch with the child in me but add the experience of a woman who has lived many decades.
